How can we help?

By doing all the groundwork for you! Let me just explain how it works; I have designed this website based upon my family's own experiences when we made the move to Spain.  I am here, whilst you may be back in your home country trying to organise things and make arrangements that you're finding it nigh on impossible over a telephone or through the computer...

How can we help?

For Sale & Sold Boards

My aim is to work through the whole of the process with you; from your first inspirational idea to move out here, to guiding you through the forest of paperwork required for the move and buying or renting a property. I can even help you when you get here with things you might not even have considered; like your driving licence or your residency documentation.

The reason I can do all this at NO extra cost to yourself, is because when you find the place that's right for you (and you find it through my guidance and steering) the seller or agent of the property will pay me a commission for introducing you. This means you don't have to pay me a penny for helping you with all the related issues to do with the process of property purchase here in Spain. However, my business here has matured to such a degree that we are finding the need for other agents is reducing drastically, so in most cases this means that we are now able to deal directly with the vendor so can actually save you money and give you extra support at the same time.

Unlike most other agents who only sell properties on their own books, I'm free to go to any agent or builder I choose, which ultimately gives me a greater choice, which means that you have a greater choice, and with that, a better chance of finding the right property, in the right place, that's right for YOU!

Interested in finding out more? Select from the wealth of information available from the menu options at the top of this page. Maybe your questions have already been answered in our frequently asked questions section (FAQ's) or in our very informative forum.

Interested in finding the property in Spain that's right for you? Why not take a look at our property section and build your own portfolio of possible properties. Then when you think you've got enough you can download all the details of your entire portfolio in a pdf document.

New registration certificates now needed when registering cars and and obtaining health cards etc - 10 February 2008

Recent changes in the law regarding the transfer of ownership on Spanish vehicles and obtaining registered SIP cards with the various E forms from Newcastle.

A new legislation was introduced at the end of last year but was not put into practice until Wednesday 6 February 2008. If the buyer of a vehicle has never before been the registered owner and keeper of a vehicle in Spain, the new procedure now demands that the buyer must possess the new Certificado de Registrar/Registration certificate or Residence Certificate as most people know it. Please note that this is not in fact, a certificate  showing you ARE resident permanently it is simply to show that you are staying in Spain for more than 3 months so you could could still in fact be domiciled in a different country.

Whilst on the subject of driving in Spain please read here for information you may not be aware of regarding the medicals that we ALL need whilst driving in Spain when we live here permanently.

If you have previously been the registered owner or keeper of a Spanish vehicle, it is still possible to transfer the ownership on the strength of an original NIE certificate. You should still be able to insure the vehicle whilst you sort out all the paperwork as you can still buy it from a private seller at least.

For Sip cards the same applies, whilst you may be able to obtain a temporary SIP card on your E111 you should register the E forms or your work contracts to get the SIP card you are entitled too. For example a contract to show you are paying Social security here in Spain will obtain you a permanent SIP card as will the E121 for retirees, the E106 will allow a set period dependant upon contributions and the E109 will get you a card if your partner is working in UK whilst you are here.

Please note that now March 2008 it is necessary according the comiseria in Elche that when applying for your children’s NIE’s that you as a parent applicant have to have the new certificate of registration first by using the old residence card application form EX16 before you apply for their NIE´s. The new price for the certificate of registration is 6.80 euros, each again as of March 2008. You can then apply for your children’s NIE´s with the form EX14 the price for the NIE application is 15.70 euros each, as of March 08... was 9 euros a few weeks ago... Don’t you just love the ´consistency?

For more information on NIE application and Residence requirements as well as the new Certificates of registration that have replaced the old residence cards and instructions on where to get the forms, where to apply and what to take with you when you do... read here.. and always check in advance for changes in rules and regulations, as, although I do my  best to get the most up to date information as and when it happens, it can and does change often!

Who are we?

Meet the family Hi, we'd like you to meet the family. starting with Emma (bottom right) the baby of the household at 13, though you wouldn't think it, she's towering above me now. Emma is the one who keeps me sane, helping me with translating and making sure I grab a sandwich in my busy days. She plays Volleyball for Albatera 3 times a week now, is doing very well at school and every one of her friends here is Spanish, which makes me feel so proud of her and shows that she has well and truly integrated.

Then there's Danny (in the middle), a very typical 15 year old, lives in Danny´s world which consists of football and quad biking and animals and that's about it. He has a heart of gold but is a tad laid back and he has just started helping out a local mechanic, which is where his interest also lies.

There's Jamie our eldest at 19 (back left), he's now working here in Spain, he is doing some labouring for a builder and has been learning some skills with an Iron worker whilst he trains hard to see if he has what it takes for a career in semi-professional football. He has his own car now so making life a little easier for us he taxis around Danny and Emma to their various activities when we are busy.

Last but not least there's Paul (back right) my husband of 20 years. He has for the time being stopped working for himself now to help me with the business, which keeps me so busy 24 hours a day. This has also given us the opportunity to take advantage of the chance to get our house finished.

Back in June 2003 fed up with the miserable weather, amongst the other things which we didnt like that were happening with the country, we completely sold up in England and began a new life here in Albatera on the Costa Blanca just 20 minutes from Elche, 30 minutes from the coast and 30 minutes from Alicante. Of course we also have a house full of pets but you could meet them later....

The Information on Live Spain for Life is derived from a number of sources, both official and unofficial, not least personal experiences of our family, colleagues, friends and acquaintances. It is not simply a long list of facts but an honest and practical guide to living in Spain.

Adapting to a new life in any country is a continuous learning process and this site will hopefully help you to make informed decisions instead of guesses and costly time-consuming mistakes.

Some of the information may be disheartening at times but take comfort, most problems can and will be overcome. I'm sure the majority of foreigners here in Spain would agree with me that if only a short time of your life is spent here in Spain, not only will it broaden your horizons but it will also enrich your life too as it has for so many others including ours!

Buenas Suerte!
