Re: Importation

Re importing I purchased a new motorhome in Germany(LH drive) in September 2006 and drove it back to Spain on german export plates since then i have been trying to register the vehicle in Spain but as yet no luck despite visits to ITV and the services of a local gestor.I am about to give up and register it in England it seems you can't do things the right way in Spain the system beats you.
Has anybody any advise or comments.Anybody thinking of doing the same Don't.

Re: Importation

already own a property in Spain (Calpe, Costa Blanca) and therefore already have my NIE/NIF number. I intend to retire to Calpe at the end of next year. I currently live in Guernsey, Channel Islands and own a 16 month old a left hand drive VW Golf (European spec imported direct from Germany), which I would like to take with me. What is the position with importing this vehicle as a) it will already confirm to the Spanish spec, but b) Guernsey, although part of the British Isle is not part of the UK and is outside the EU?

What taxes am I going to be hit with?

Re: Importation

HI Graham

As far as I am unless you follow the instructions on this website re obtaining residencia and importing the car within 30 days then yu will have to pay the import tax the same as importing a car from the UK the tax is calculated on the value of the car and that I cannot tell you but if you look in the Costa Blanca News there are adverts in there that advertise people offering to do this import for you and they if you ring them and ask for a quote will give you a better idea as they do this all the time.
www.costablanca-news.com
I am not saying go down that road you would be better to fins a Spanish Gestoria to do it for yu or do it yourself and pay a translator if you do not speak Spanish.

Hope this helps

Look on www.spainvia.com
Brian who is the author writes for the Round Town News and knows all the up to date gen on motoring in Spain.

Re: Importation

Hello,

Have found your website very useful and am just
wondering whether you can help - I´m 25 and now living
in Spain, applying for residency at the moment.

I have a RHD car in the UK which I am considering
importing, could you possibly recommend a Gestor who
could tell me what´s involved, give me some idea of
cost and possibly help me with the process?

Alternatively, in your opinion, would it be better to
sell my car (2004 plate Seat Ibiza) and buy a Spanish
vehicle?

Many thanks for your time,

Gavin.
Hi Gavin

I have answered you question on the forum but basically there are hundreds of gestors in Spain so it depends where you are based, you will also find other people advertiesing in the local press to help, or you could try it yourself by following the process here which is not wuite as bad as it sounds, honest, or if you think the car is not worth it because it is a RHD then maybe you would be better selling and buying one here in Spain, only you can decide that but here is the process to help you make your mind up. The latest updates are at the foot of the page!

Good luck

Kind Regards

Sharon
