Midnight chimes on Saturday bring in the New Year and the tobacco law that bans smoking in work places and many bars, restaurants and pubs.

Spain goes from having one of the most permissive tobacco legislations in Europe to having one of the toughest, whereby lighting up in workplaces will be absolutely forbidden and so-called smoking rooms will not be allowed. The minimum age to purchase tobacco goes from 16 to 18.
