Looking for Schools...

We are looking at the option of moving to the Costa Blanca area, and are having a trip towards the end of August to decide on areas and schools.  We have 2 daughters, aged 5 and 3.  Our main concern is finding the right school, however we are finding it extremley difficult to find out any information on schools i.e the spainish equivilent of Ofsted reports etc...

We have decided that we would like to send them to a spanish state school, but still have concerns with settling in and whether extra spainish tuition would be required.

If anyone has any experiences they would like to share with us, or can point us in the right direction of finding out more information on spanish state schools, it would be very much appreciated.

Please could anyone also confirm whether you can you enrole your children in a school, even if it is not your local school??

Many thanks.

P.S Have to say that we have found this website really useful.  It's amazing just how many people want to leave the UK!!!

Re: Looking for Schools...

Hi Jane

The system here is catchment much like the UK and you can also appeal if the school refuses you due to numbers.

You need all usual paperwork and medical certificates and if you ddont enrol May you can do it at the beginning of term but only when you have all the paperwork. This is listed on the website under schooling.

But briefly...

To enrol your child in a Spanish school you will require the following:

  • Child's birth certificate or passport together with a photocopy, parent's passports together with a photocopy.
  • Proof of child's immunisation medical certificate.
  • Padron-Proof of residence. Obtain this from the town hall in your locality.
  • Two or four passport-size photographs. One for student Identification card, the others for records.
  • If you have a child over the age of 12 whom you wish to place in a Spanish secondary school you will also require proof of homologation or convalidation, which is the official name for your child's education record.
  • Family NIE´s
